The Fobbit's House

So I'm hanging out in my room. It's not completely mine, though, because I have to share with 2 others....but we've managed to arrange it so we each have our own private space.

And I have the couch. Ha. No one else has one. Neener neener neener.

The couch is hideous, but I've covered it up with a red microfleece blanket...so it's doable. Without the blanket you can't look at it unless the lights are off. It's that bad.

So. I'm in my area. Watching the CMA's on AFN (That's the Armed Forces Network, for you non-military types) and feeling quite nostalgic.

Looking around from my perch on the Couch of Hideousness, here's what I see....

~The Kickass Coffee/Tea/Cocoa Maker. It has a place of honor on top of my bookshelf. I think I'll stop and make some tea.....one sec.

Okay I'm back. Onward!

~The TV. It's a nice big one...28" I think. It's good for drowning out the noises my roomates make.

~A plant. One of the very few on Camp Bondsteel. Hopefully I don't kill it. It looks pretty and definitely adds to the Fung Shui of my living area.

~My very comfy bed. It's a twin size...which is a big step down from my queen mattress at home. But I've "pimped" it up a bit. 440 Threadcount sheets....a nice down comforter...and the bestest pillow EVAR. Sleep is highly important here.

~My rug. It's a pretty soft golden yellow color. Matches my comforter.

~My plastic-drawer-thingy/nightstand. Next to my bed. It's full of all the junk I don't want lying around messing up my Fung Shui.

~2 Wall-lockers (big wooden wardrobes) and 3 green footlockers. They are dual purpose...used for hanging stuff and also used as walls.

~A big 5 foot tall bookshelf (packed with books, DVDs, snacks and stuff). And my vitamins. I need those so I don't get any weird illnesses. Coughing Soldiers just freak me out.

~And, last but NOT least, my computer desk...where I write this blog, Skype my kids, and try to escape.

So. Those are the basics of my "house."

I might have failed to mention that all of this is crammed into a 9-ish foot by 12-ish foot area. Kinda makes you want to join up and get deployed, doesn't it?

Stuff You Never Think You'll Miss On Deployment...

OMG, OMG, OMG....

So this is it. The second post on DFH. And it's going to be a good one.

I was thinking (because deployed Soldiers have a lot of time to do that), and decided that my blog needed a list. Perhaps something that folks can add to by emailing me more ideas.

The list is the same as the title of this post. Genius, I know. So let's get started.

Stuff I Never Thought I'd Miss Until I Was Deployed...

1. Cooking my own food in my own kitchen.

2. Not having to hide the microwave (That thing is HEAVY!).

3. Candles.

4. Noisy sex. Seriously...being quiet only goes so far.

5. Fresh fruit that isn't an apple or a banana from the DFAC.

6. Sleeping nekkid.

7. The bathtub.

8. GOOD shower-heads (that aren't 3 feet above my head).

9. Being around co-workers who don't check out my ass or boobs while I'm working.

10. TV shows with commercials that are actually selling stuff and don't have a moral message.

So....that's the start of the list. Some of them aren't fun or funny...but that's the thing about being deployed. It isn't always fun or funny. I'll try to add some funny ones though.

Have a great day!

CP's KFOR10 Blog Do-Over

So, after months of not posting in my old KFOR10 blog, I've decided to start fresh. I read some fabulous blogs from some guys stationed down (and over) in Iraq and was inspired.

I love inspiration. It really should be the new designer drug. In fact, as of lately I've been inspired to do all kinds of new things...and I'm definitely getting addicted. It's a good thing they can't detect it on a whiz-quiz.

So, here for your reading enjoyment, in no particular order (because it's nearly the end of my shift and I'm too lazy to be orderly), are my current inspirations:

~The Kick Ass Coffee/Tea/Cocoa Maker: After much deliberation and research (read: surfing the 'net), I finally decided to spend entirely too much money on the Most Amazing Hot Beverage Maker Ever. Also known as my Christmas present to myself for the next couple of years. If you drink any kind of hot beverage, do yourself a favor and get one. If you are a Soldier on deployment, drink hot beverages, and want something cool and entertaining to watch while your beverage is being made (because Soldiers are all about entertainment) definitely do yourself a favor and get one. It's my favorite new designer drug. Inspired.

~The Shopping But Not Buying Anything Addiction: That's right. Also known as Internet Window Shopping. Or perhaps "Windows Shopping?" Either way, you can pass many hours doing this. Just make sure you don't bring your credit card to work with you.

~College (Or "What am I going to do with the rest of my life?"): After much deliberation, my decision is made. And it isn't what I thought it'd be. Oddly, it seems that there are a lot of people out there pursuing this same boring degree. Business.

~Missing/Wishing-for/Wanting Stuff: I think every Soldier spends their deployment doing this. Which is why I've decided that it is a topic for a whole other post! Yay!
